UNITED WAY CAMPAIGN
CWL employees recently held their annual United Campaign and, once again, it was a huge success. Led by the CWL Employees Advisory and Safety Committee, the employees pledged $163,785 to the United Way 2018 campaign. There was 100% employee participation and 186 employees who pledged $500 or more a year. CWL employees truly are making a difference every day in their community!
CWL retirees continue to make a difference by donating $2,600 to the United Way Campaign! Thank You!
MEDALLION WATER TREATMENT PLANT WELL FIELD UPGRADE
CWL initiated a groundwater study in 2014 that included drilling test wells in locations nearby to CWL's existing water treatment plants and analyzing water quality from those test wells. The project resulted in CWL locating multiple sites for future drinking water wells. In 2016, CWL purchased three of these sites around the Medallion Water Treatment Plant's existing well field. Well construction on one of the three sites was started in October of 2016 and completed in 2017. Raw water line constructed to carry the well water to the plant for treatment is underway. The other two sites should be developed in 2018. When all three wells are completed the well field's capacity will increase from approximately 8.5 million gallons per day (MGD) to approximately 13.0 MGD.
COMMUNICATIONS TOWER AND BUILDING
CWL is constructing a communications tower and building at its Greensboro Road water tank site, located at 2410 Greensboro Road. CWL has entered into a Radio Tower Joint User Agreement with the City of Jonesboro for joint use of the tower and building. As a condition of the agreement, CWL will own and maintain the tower and building. The City of Jonesboro will install, operate, maintain, repair and replace necessary equipment for its turbo radio system. One (1) block of system talk groups on the City's turbo radio system has been dedicated to CWL for exclusive use at no cost to CWL. This will provide a critical back-up on our Arkansas Wireless Information Network (AWIN) voice radio system. The project was awarded to Wallace Tower Specialists Company.
MINX HILL LIFT STATION IMPROVEMENTS
Construction began July 21, 2017 on improvements to the Minx Hill Lift Station on Highway 226. The project includes upgrades to the lift station, the installation of a backup generator and general site improvements. The backup generator is part of CWL's long term goals under the CMOM program for sanitary sewer system improvements.
