CWL PROVIDES NEW METHODS OF VIEWING AND REPORTING OUTAGES

While CWL customers may continue calling (870) 930-3300 to report outages, customers may now send a text message from a mobile device (reporting outages). During outages, a new Interactive Voice Response (IVR) may be activated; increasing call capacity and automating outage reporting. Customers are also able to view active outages by visiting CWL’s new outage map. To enable text messaging on your CWL account, please call Customer Service at (870) 930-3300.

69kV LINE COLONY TO HERGETT

Through ongoing analysis of CWL’s 69kV transmission loops connecting CWL’s substations to the bulk electric system, CWL identified the need for a 69kV transmission line from the Colony substation to the Hergett substation to improve the reliability and flexibility of the system. This line will not only place Colony substation on a looped (two-way) feed, but also enhance the system’s ability to provide power from the Hergett substation, one of two power sources for the City. Pole deliveries are complete. Easement acquisitions are nearing completion. Construction began on May 3, 2021. The project completion date is scheduled for the end of 2021.

RIDGECREST LIFT STATION REPLACEMENT

The Ridgecrest Lift Station was constructed in 2002/2003 to address capacity constraints in the Ridgecrest St., Sims Ave., Owens Ave., and Parkview St. area. CWL identified the need to optimize the functionality of the lift station through a redesign to a lower hydraulic grade line and increased pump capacity. The design includes the replacement station and new wet weather diversion structure. These improvements will increase the wet weather capacity in the design area, including Southwest Drive. The Arkansas Department of Health approved the lift station plans on September 30, 2020. The City of Jonesboro has also reviewed and approved the construction. Construction is now scheduled to start August, 2021 with an expected completion date of February, 2022.

JONESBORO CWL SOLAR PARK

CWL is constructing a solar power system totaling 13.25 MW DC on approximately 98 acres near Nestle Way and Great Dane Drive. This facility will generate an estimated 24,292 megawatt-hours of zero carbon emission energy during the first year of operation. Major equipment procurement began in early February of this year and is complete – receipt of major equipment has begun. Permits necessary at this time are in hand and construction crews are on site. Mechanical completion is scheduled for December 9, 2021 with final completion slated for February 3, 2022.

WESTSIDE WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANT REPLACEMENT

CWL’s existing Westside Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) was constructed in 1979. The 40-year old plant is approaching the end of its useful life; therefore, CWL plans to replace this treatment facility to address end-of-life issues. Additionally, the replacement will set CWL up to increase plant capacity and accommodate potentially more stringent regulatory requirements. The new facility will improve capacity and add hydraulic flow increase which will mitigate sanitary sewer overflows in west Jonesboro. Construction of the plant buildings and treatment structures should begin in early 2022, with a projected completion date in late 2023 or early 2024.

MIDTOWN INTERCEPTOR SEWER

CWL is constructing a large-diameter gravity sewer line from just east of Midtown Jonesboro to a connection point on our Northeast Interceptor Sewer, which is approximately ½ mile east of the Jonesboro Municipal Airport and approximately ¼ mile north of Highland Drive. This line will provide additional wastewater conveyance capacity to parts of Midtown and Northeast Jonesboro. The contractor is currently constructing the line in the area of the ASU track complex just east of Marion Berry. The project is approximately 80% complete. Wet weather and the contractor’s work on the CWL Main Lift Station project have delayed this project some, and the completion date is now expected to be in late 2021.

CHAPEL TRANSMISSION LINES

CWL energized the Chapel Substation as part of the west loop of the 69kV system. This was accomplished through construction of a 69kV line from the Melton to Chapel Substation (Phase I). Another 69kV line from the Chapel to South Substation (Phase II – intersecting and upgrading a portion of existing 69kV line on Parker Road) will complete the loop for Chapel Substation. CWL crews began installing poles east of Southwest Drive on October 21, 2020 and are currently upgrading to steel poles along the existing line from South Substation back toward Chapel, as weather conditions and electric loads permit.

MAIN LIFT STATION REPLACEMENT

CWL’s Main Lift Station was constructed in 1977. CWL replaced this lift station in order to increase its capacity and to address electrical and piping equipment that are well over 40 years old and approaching the end of their useful life. A new force main was also constructed from the new lift station to the West Side Wastewater Treatment Plant. This project was completed in mid-August. CWL is very pleased with the facility, and it has been performing very well since being placed in service.
